COVID-19 Update

“This year has been challenging for our entire NAPS community, and I appreciate everything you have done to keep our students and staff safe this year."

The CDC has warned that COVID-19 variants have caused an increase in pediatric cases since Summer 2020. Between spring holidays, the April vacation, and the weather starting to improve, more individuals will be gathering in the community. Please try to continue to keep your circle small. We know that transmission is most likely to occur during community gatherings. It is important to remember to continue to wear your mask, wash your hands frequently, stay home if you are sick, and practice physical distancing.

In light of the increase in pediatric cases, I would like to provide you with some tools to be at your disposal in the event your child has COVID-19.

If your child tests positive:

  • Be sure to notify your school nurse and pediatrician.

  • Do not allow those from outside of your household into your home until your child is cleared of the virus. Avoid taking your child to public places, other than the doctor's office or hospital if needed.

  • When possible, ask your child to wear a mask in the home. Other members of the household should wear a mask as well to protect themselves, and try to maintain physical distancing when reasonable.

  • Clean frequently touched surfaces such as sink faucets, door knobs, etc. often with a disinfectant such as Clorox or Lysol.

  • It is safe to take Tylenol or Motrin as directed by your pediatrician (if you have difficulty accessing these medications, your pediatrician can write a prescription and these are often covered by insurance).

  • Push fluids with your child as much as possible - popsicles can be a great way to sneak in fluids!

  • If your child is unable to hold down fluids, is weak or excessively sleepy, has difficulty breathing or you are concerned about their appearance - take them directly to their pediatrician or your local emergency department.

  • Allow your child to rest, if they need to be absent from zoom classes simply call the school to notify us.

  • Individuals must be cleared by the local board of health or their primary care provider prior to returning to school.

Thank you.
